KING'S DAUGHTER

Daughter's POV:

"Am I the king's daughter?

Or perhaps just part of the community

Who believes because the king is lord

He's both our father and king."

"Am I the King's Daughter?

After much struggle

To gain entrance

To his throne room

I enter and voice my complaints

He sits, watching me, and

"All done" is all he says."

"Maybe I complain a lot

After all, that's what I'm good at

Complaining and blaming everyone but me."

King's POV:

"Am I her father and king

Or just a king?"

"She comes in

Once in a blue moon

And of course, I'm glad to see her... But

With a loud voice, she complains

And makes atonement for offenses

Which of course, she will do again."

"Should I tighten the entrance?

Then she will have new complaints

Of how hard it is

To come see me,

But I love to see her

And watch her even as she rants and asks for things

Which of course I don't refute"

Daughter:

"I know you don't want me here

But you won't send me out

I'm here to complain

And to ask questions

*Are you my father or king?*"

"I'm both... Young lady

And you must respect me as both"

*Father!!!*

With teary eyes,

She turns her back

Perhaps fighting her tears

"Can't you just be one to me?"

"Do I always have to complain?"

"Do I always have to cry?"

"Because I'm always offending"

"I can hear you, young lady"

"It's for you to hear, I'm not murmuring it in my head, hear it loud and clear," she cries

"No, I mean, I hear you...

Stretching my hands toward you,

Hoping to touch you

But you always seem to slip

You only complain and leave

You don't want to hear me speak

Yet you want me as father...

You call me father when you're in need...

But you aren't a daughter nor a subordinate.

I don't punish you when you're wrong

You're quick to blame everyone... Even ME

Are you the King's Daughter?"
