Karma is a Bitch

 Background:

Do you watch high school movies?  

Those girls labeled as "bitches" are often strong-willed and tend to defy everyone.  

They're called bitches to diminish or pretend to diminish their presence in school.  

But, they still stand tall and make their mark.

Karma is a bitch.

She watches you.  

Sitting in your seat  

In the classroom of life.  

She watches you  

Eat your cake  

And, of course,  

Believe you’ll have it back.  

She sees you laugh at those  

You deem lesser  

And hears you shout  

"Karma doesn’t exist!"  

Of course,  

She doesn’t exist in your class.  

She observes you mock others—  

Their mistakes,  

Their failures,  

Their griefs,  

Even their joys.  

And yes,  

You're right.  

She doesn’t exist in your class.  

She waits for you.  

Patiently.  

Where you least expect.  

Perhaps during break,  

When you’re eating.  

Maybe there’s a glass of juice before you—  

Her favorite joke to pull.  

And, obviously,  

The joke is on you.  

You become her joke.  

She spills it—  

Your juice of deeds—  

Done in the early mornings of your life,  

And laughs in your face.  

You look ridiculous.  

Surely, you should know that.  

Of course, she’s a bitch.

She waits patiently  

When school is over,  

When you’re heading home.  

She smiles when she sees you coming.  

It’s game time.  

You’re the game.  

The prize.  

I’m sure you thought  

You escaped her during break.  

Ha!  

The joke’s still on you.  

What should she do?  

As you approach the gate,  

She pulls you down.  

How the mighty have fallen.  

Should those you once scorned  

Step on you now?  

Or should she make you a spectacle—  

A show for everyone to watch,  

Laughing at your downfall?  

Until it’s their turn.

Or maybe  

She waits for you to leave the gates  

And lets your seeds enter.  

Then she plays her games on them

The punishment that bypassed their father  

Now falls on them.

And, of course,  

She’s a bitch.

She might decide  

To let you leave the gates  

Without punishment in sight,  

Leaving those waiting to see you fall  

Disappointed.  

And those who were kind  

Left unrewarded.  

After all, she’s a bitch.
